Nightfall

Nightfall
Jay Chambers

Yellow, pink, and red all overlay the orange
of the setting sun. Complimentary colors
bathe the horizon in a coherent whole.
Elsewhere, dusk has come and blankets
the farmhouse with a smooth and comforting
darkness. The dandelions fade into black.
I turn around and see the cows standing in
the pasture. Rich tan and brindle coats have
now been rendered as silhouettes in contrast
To the final climax of color, dancing yellows,
Strutting pinks, and roaring reds, bowing now
at the end of their encore, the sun fades to black.
